Film review: Into the woods

Hello my lovelies!

There are so many amazing films in the cinema at the moment and I do enjoy a trip to the cinema. A couple of weeks ago I went to see Into the woods, a musical based around Disney films. The thing that intrigued me about this though was its sinister twist. It combined some well loved fairy tales but gave it a darker undertone. I found out afterwards that this had been interpreted from a theater production and had been tamed for the cinema goers.

This movie had a star studded cast which included Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt and James Corden. They all were phenomenal in the movie and they were definitely right for the parts. Johnny Depp was creepy as ever playing the wolf from red riding hood. Meryl Streep played the wicked witch and she stole the show, superb as ever. Anna Kendrick played Cinderella but I liked the edge that she brought to the character. She made her a bit more sarcastic and head strong which I really liked. Disney is doing well to show younger children that you do not have to be saved by a man, that in fact you can get things done yourself.

The stories involved were Cinderella, Red riding hood, Rapunzel and Jack and the bean stalk. James Corden and Emily Blunt played a baker and baker's wife who could not conceive a child. The wicked witch comes in to tell them it is because there is a curse on their house. The bakers father stole magic beans from her garden which took her youth, so as revenge she put a curse on their house and took the baby that they were already expecting. The baby that she took turned out to be Rapunzel who she locked up in the castle. In order for the bakers wife to have a child they must gather some objects to cast a spell to give her back her youth. They had to find a red coat, a white cow, a golden slipper and hair as yellow as corn. That is how all the characters were cleverly intertwined!

I won't give away how they did or how the story developed but I will say that I LOVED this film. The singing was superb, the child actors were excellent and the plot line was really well thought out. I would recommend this to any Disney or musical lover and I will definitely buy this on DVD when it comes out!

*Also my Auntie told  me one of the songs was filmed at Virginia Water waterfall which is right my where I live, what a claim to fame!*
